How it All Started
When my mom suffered a major heart attack in 2007 and was in the hospital for a week, puddings and gelatins were a regular part of her meals. When she left the hospital, the doctors instructed her to follow a low sodium, low fat, healthy diet which incorporated more fiber, protein and calcium as she tried to control her blood pressure and went through intensive cardiac rehabilitation.
Calcium and vitamin D were also important for her diet since she also suffered from low bone density.
When I went to the store to buy puddings and gelatins to have at home for my mom I looked at the nutrition label and realized puddings were actually very high in sodium and there was actually very little nutrition in gelatins.
What better way to combine several health benefits into one than a bowl of pudding which would taste great and can be low fat, lower in sodium and still provide a good source of protein, calcium and fiber. Both and made even better by topping with healthy fruit and/or granola.
Or what better way to add fiber to one’s diet than in a low sodium, fat free, all natural gelatin with or without toppings including healthy fruit and/or whipped cream.
I have been developing healthier food products at major food companies for the last 15 years and recognized a need for healthier, convenient, great tasting puddings and gelatins — and thus Better Bowls was born. A labor of love not just for my mom but also my kids who also love puddings and gelatins.
